Introvert Whisperer / The Characteristics of Good Leadership - Introvert Whisperer The Characteristics of Good Leadership Leadership is the action of leading a group of people towards achieving a pre-defined target. Hence, the role of a leader is crucial for the success of the team as well as the organization. It is very important to be under the guidance of a good leader because he can motivate the team to get the best out of every team member, provide them confidence and lead by example, look after the team coordination and build a perfect work environment for everyone to thrive. On the other hand, a bad leader will be demotivating for the team members and the goal might take double the expected time for completion, if at all. Who Is A Leader? Any person can be a leader as long as he or she performs the following roles â" The Initiator The leader is always responsible for initiating works. It could be meeting, planning, and distributing work modules. In the time of crisis, the leader is going to lead by example. The Motivator No work can go smoothly, and no person can perform at his best without motivation. It is the duty of the leader to keep motivating every team member and give confidence booster to bring out his full potential. The Guide The primary role of a leader is to guide the team to reach the goal easily. He will provide the instructions that the team members will follow and finish work modules one by one in the best possible way. The Coordinator One of the very crucial roles of a leader is to keep smooth team coordination and provide a proper working environment where the members enjoy working with each other. The Characteristics Of A Good Leader Thinking Beyond There is always a traditional way to achieve a goal. When a normal leader takes the usual path, a good leader thinks beyond and is focused on utilizing the resources in the best possible way to get the job done quickly without comprising with quality. He thinks quickly and acts quicker when the plan does not work as expected. A good leader always keeps his eyes on long-term goals so that there is an equal progress for the overall project. He can foresee the potholes in the path and guide the team accordingly. Clear Communication A good leader has to be a good communicator with the clients as well as the team members. It is the unsaid things that create a lot of confusion, and it hampers the mental condition of the members, and the working environment gets spoilt. A good leader should communicate in the language that everyone can understand clearly. He must explain every technical term and aspect of the subject and give time to everyone individually to clarify their doubts before they can begin working as per instructions. Taking Ownership A leader gains the trust and respect of the team members when he starts to lead by example. He should never be afraid of taking ownership on the behalf of the team and face all the criticisms himself without letting the team members getting affected. A good leader needs to show such a character for others to get inspired and bring out the best out of them. Inspiring It is difficult for every team member to be consistent in work throughout the project. When the morale and confidence start decreasing, a good leader makes sure he motivates the entire team to give their best and provides a morale booster. He infuses the confidence in every member and creates an environment where everyone gives their 100% for a common goal. A good leader naturally becomes an inspirational model for others and that is why they have followers. Total Trust The ability of all the team members will never be the same but it is the confidence that the leader shows in every member that can make the team successful and outperform other teams. It is the responsibility of the leader to demonstrate his total trust in the abilities of the team member. A good leader lets the team members shine. If any suggestion is better than what he has suggested before, he accepts the better suggestion without satisfying ego because he is totally professional and willing to make every team member open up and contribute in every way possible. It is this environment of mutual trust that will boost the members to give their best every day. Even though leaders are born, to be a good leader, it requires experience and willingness. Reading is key to writing, thinking, and solving problems
Reading is key to writing, thinking, and solving problems Why is everyone always bugging us to read? Because becoming a powerful reader is the best way to become a powerful writer, thinker, and problem solver. When we read, we reach into the authorâs mindâ"not to suck out her brain like a zombieâ"but to learn how she thinks. Only then can we compare her thinking to our own. Only then can we learn from it. Only then can we argue with it, be persuaded by it, and enjoy it. So, how do we do it? How do we become powerful readers? Dig in How? When you come across a word that you donât know, look it up. I ran into pleonasm yesterday. The point is gobble down its meaning and rush back to the text. The point is to spend time understanding the word and why it was chosen. Trace its etymologyâ"its roots. Why? So youâll be empowered to understand any word that shares those roots. See? Getting more powerful already after just one step. Mark up Now define the new addition to your vocabulary in your own words. Write it down in your text. Yes, Iâm telling you to mark up your text by writing in the margins and in between the lines. Annotate your text. Make it your own. Why? Your annotations might lead to a whole new language. Did you know that monks annotating Latin texts created the written form of the languages now used in Europe? So, yes, itâs very cool. Do it. Picture Iâm sitting outside on my porch as I write this. Picture my porch. What does it look like? What vista does it look out on? If I tell you there are three trees poking up through the wooden floor of my porchâ"and theyâre really areâ"what impact does that have on your picture? Think Think about what youâre reading. Does it make sense? No, it doesnât matter what itâs about. Even vampires and zombies have their own kind of logic. Feel If a vampire suddenly starts sucking brains instead of blood, how would that make you feel? Disappointed? Shocked? Cheated? Read with your whole selfâ"that includes your feelings. Argue And if you donât like what youâve read, argue with itâ"not just in your head. Write it down. Dear Vampire Authorâ"Vampires suck blood, not brainsâ"Your truly, Me. Pretend the author is your best friend and you do not agree with him. Find the fault in his argument and point that fault out to him. Arguing with the author keeps you engaged. Itâs what makes reading funâ"and itâs how reading makes us more powerful thinkers. Ponder Loveâs not timeâs fool. Really? Is that true? What does it mean? When you know all the words, but still arenât sure of the meaning, thatâs the time to ponder. Get some friends together. Expand your two-person argument between you and the author into a full-blown debate. See how youâre going to solve problems? See how youâre going to get inside the writerâs mind and find out how he thinks? Like Do you really like something youâve just read? Donât just like it, write it down. Break it apart. What makes it cool? Hereâs part of Sonnet 116 by Shakespeare that I likeâ"if you need one to start with: Loveâs not Timeâs fool though rosy lips and cheeks Within his bending sickleâs compass come. Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks But bears it out even to the edge of doom. The image of Time as the Grim Reaper is cool, like a Zombieâ"only cooler. Question Question what you read. Just because the author wrote it down doesnât make it true. I used to play in the NBA. See that? Read any book from over ten years ago. You will be sure to find things to question. It is harder is to see how books being written right now include things that you should question, tooâ"but they are in there, I promise you. Predict Thatâs right. You get to make up your own story. Stop at the end of one chapter. Write the next chapter on your own. But, remember writers try to surprise us to keep us engaged. What happens next must come from what happened before, but that doesnât mean it should be boring. Read what? Fiction, okay. Youâll do that on your own, but read non-fiction, too. History. Biographies. No sports stars or celebrities. Sorry. But you could ask, how did Viola Davis make history by winning an Emmy? Try something local or one of your parentsâ heroes. My dad loved Quanah Parker, but I fell in love with story of his mother Cynthia Ann Parker. Why? Maybe because it starts with a heart-breaking kidnap. Practice This is the only way to get better at anything. Read every dayâ"and not just one thing, everything that weâve talked about here. Find friends and read books together. Then check in your power. Are you writing, thinking, and solving problems more easily? Weâll talk more about how that works next time!
2015 Education Technology Trends for Teachers and Students
2015 Education Technology Trends for Teachers and Students 2015 Education Technology Trends for Teachers and Students This article is a guest post Courtesy of Academy of Learning College, a career and business college. With over 30 degree programs, 50 locations across Canada and over 25 years of experience, they are considered a leading provider of education. Teddy Roosevelt once said, A man who has never gone to school may steal from a freight car; but if he has a university education, he may steal the whole railroad. An education particularly a good one -makes all the difference in the world. Even earning something as common as a high school diploma means the difference between having a job, and having none. And the better the diploma, certificate, or degree, the better the job obtained. Students, both young and old, need every advantage they can get. If you are a student, or the parent of one, then you know how difficult some subjects can be. Considering that the population of this ever shrinking planet borders on the astronomical number of 8 billion people, making competition for high-paying jobs almost cut-throat, having the best education in all subjects required for ones field of expertise is the simple math behind success. Keeping Up With Modern Education To succeed, students need to keep up. This often presents unique challenges; a student may do exceedingly well in English, but fail miserably when it comes to Algebra. This is not because the student is any less bright than his peers, its because the student thinks differently, and therefore may need to be taught differently, in order for him or her to understand and appreciate the subject material, and the principals behind it, thoroughly. Or, the student may not be able attend class in person, or may even live in a region where there are no schools, which makes obtaining an education almost impossible. This is where online or in-home tutors and technology come in to save the day. Technology Trends in Education Online and In-home Tutoring: One of the wonderful things about the internet, besides videos of dancing and costumed kitties, is the ability to find and hire academic tutors online. There are some great tutoring services available online todaystudents can speak with tutors directly, in real time. A tutor has been, and always shall be, one of the best learning aids available outside the classroom and most busy working parents would have to agree. OERs: Open educational resources (OERs), simply put, are free, openly licensed materials which can be utilized by tutors, students and teachers for learning and teaching purposes. While there are unlimited resources to be tapped from the internet, finding a published paper on a particular subject can be frustrating, but one is certainly available. Fortunately, platforms for obtaining such information are getting better. ILS: An integrated learning system (typically software) is integral to a students success. Designed to deliver, measure, maintain, and monitor subject material, an ILS engages a student directly by providing feedback as to why a student has, or has not, progressed; students interact with the program like they would a tutor. Many colleges already incorporate ILSs for homeworklike Algebraand off-campus courses. Virtual Learning: Virtual learning also utilizes computer software, as well as the internet, to deliver instruction to a student. This can be used to eliminate the need for a student to be in a classroom, and even the teacher, but it can also be used as an aid by a teacher to enhance lessons. Instructor-Led Online Learning: Just as it sounds, instructor-led online learning is a virtual classroom with a real instructor, teaching in real time over the net. This is awesome for students who cannot be in a classroom but want direct engagement with a teacher or professor. Though many career and business colleges have been slow to offer this sort of hybrid learning, large business corporations have used it successfully. Its a foregone conclusion, then, that todays technology which is constantly improving is becoming the backbone of how we are learning. The advantages are undeniable, and students need this edge in order to succeed, let alone just attend a class. Because of these current trends in education, the isolated student, as well as the financially challenged student, can enjoy the same quality of education as their peers in the classroom. In the past, technology tended to leave students, teachers, and educational systems struggling to keep up. But today it is almost the other way around. Because students and teachers employing current technology trends naturally evaluate them, improving them wherever they can, these platforms can only improve and they are improving. We just keep getting smarter. Further Reading: Ask a Nerd! What kind of Tech Should I Use to Help Me Study? All blog entries, with the exception of guest bloggers, are written by Tutor Nerds. How to find a short-term job teaching English abroad
How to find a short-term job teaching English abroad Teaching English abroad is a fantastic opportunity to travel, learn about a new culture and get paid while youâre doing it. With few exceptions, anybody who is a native English speaker and has a degree can find an ESL job overseas. However, most language schools only hire teachers for a minimum of one-year contracts. If you have school, a career or other commitments, a one-year contract may not be realistic. So what do you do if you want to teach English abroad but you canât commit to a full year? Luckily, there are lots of short-term ESL jobs out there, ranging from just a week to six months. These temporary teaching gigs are a great way to fund your travels or to dip your toes in the ESL waters. Who knows? It may even be the beginning of a rewarding long-term career as an English teacher. What kinds of short-term English teaching jobs abroad are out there? Thereâs many different ways you can teach English abroad on a short-term contract. Weâll go into lots more detail below, but at a glance, these are the sorts of roles youâll be likely to find. Type of short-term ESL job Most common regions Volunteer teaching Latin America, Africa, Asia Au pair work China, Europe Summer camp jobs Europe Stay realistic about short-term ESL jobs abroad Are there short-term ESL jobs available abroad? Certainly! But you are going to have to be realistic about your expectations. Short-term contracts probably arenât going to pay as well as long-term ones. Also, donât expect to get the same perks and benefits that you would get with a one-year contract (like airfare and accommodation). That said, the demand for ESL teachers in some countries is insatiable, so if you search hard enough or if you have the right credentials, anything is possible! For most people, the flexibility of a short-term contract requires some sort of trade-off in terms of pay or other benefits. OK, so what kind of short-term teaching can I do? Short-term teaching will require you to be a little more creative with the type of classroom environment or teaching you are willing to do. 1. Volunteer teaching If you are open to volunteering, then your options will open up considerably. Volunteer ESL positions can be found for just about any length of time. Of course, you wonât get paid for the experience, but you will usually be provided with accommodation and meals. Volunteering is also a fantastic way to make a meaningful contribution to the places you are visiting in your travels. 2. Au pair work Another option is to work as an au pair, which is basically a live-in babysitter and tutor. While au pairs are rare in North America, they are ubiquitous in many parts of the world. The advantage of this route is that you will get free accommodation and, in many cases, you will also receive a wage. Living with your host family is an unbeatable way of learning the local language and integrating into the culture in a way that most tourists can only dream of. 3. Summer camp work Summer camps are another reliable option for short-term ESL jobs. You wonât usually get paid for working at a summer camp, but they do allow you to gain invaluable teaching experience during the summer months. Even better, summer ESL camp positions are often available in countries that, for North Americans, are otherwise hard to get work visas in (like the European Union). Finally, in some countries, the best way to find a short-term paid ESL job is to simply be in the country you want to work in already. That way you can start handing out your resume to private schools. This option wonât be realistic in countries that have strict work visa laws. But in others, itâs a low-risk option for both you and the school since they wonât have to waste resources flying you over. It also gives you the chance to see how well youâll fit in at a school before committing to a more extended contract. Read this: Can I teach English abroad for the summer? Where can I teach English short-term? Generally speaking, the sort of short-term teaching job available will depend on the region youâre in. You can pretty much find a position anywhere. Volunteer teaching in Latin America, Africa or Asia If you are willing to volunteer, then Latin America, Africa and parts of Asia present the best opportunities. Volunteering is less common in countries where private language schools and paid contracts are the norm. So while you probably wonât be able to volunteer in Japan or South Korea, you can definitely find short-term volunteer positions in Cambodia, Colombia or Peru. Again, there are exceptions: Vietnam, for example, provides opportunities for both paid and voluntary ESL work. Au pair work in China or Europe In terms of working as an ESL au pair, China is a top destination. Youâll get free accommodation and meals with your host family and usually a small stipend for spending money. Many au pair programs in China also include Mandarin or Cantonese lessons to help you better integrate. Au pairs are also common in Europe and even North Americans can work in EU countries as au pairs, which is usually not the case for most European jobs. In some countries, you will need to apply for a special type of au pair visa, which usually has a maximum age limit of 30. Summer camp jobs in Europe Another fun way to work in Europe is with a summer camp. Summer camps are volunteer positions, but they will usually provide you with free accommodation and meals. The time commitments are also reasonable - usually about 4 or 5 hours of teaching per day along with participating in the occasional camp activity. That means youâll have plenty of spare time to explore and travel. You may find that your university or college is a great resource for finding short-term ESL jobs abroad for the summer. Check out your universityâs career guidance service or student union to see if they are partnered with any summer camps or language schools overseas. Sign up to Teach Away today for access to the latest teaching jobs around the world. Is it easier to find a short-term English teaching job if Iâm already in the country? If you are already in the country where you want to work then knocking on the doors of private schools may be the best way to find short-term paid work. This probably wonât be an option in countries like China, South Korea, and Japan that have strict visa requirements and background checks for teachers. However, in countries where the rules around teaching are a little laxer, such as Vietnam or Brazil, handing out your resume directly to schools is considered normal and may be the best way of finding either long- or short- term ESL jobs. Private tutoring is another way to teach abroad for a shorter time! Finally, you may want to consider private tutoring or teaching English online part-time. Private tutoring, online or in-person, isnât usually a standalone type of job. Instead, it is often used as a supplemental source of income for those who are already on ESL contracts abroad. With private tutoring, it is very easy to negotiate how long you will be teaching for and at what rate. You can usually find these jobs through word of mouth. For instance, check out online discussion boards that cater to the expat community of whichever country you are in or ask fellow teachers at a school you already work at.
How Have Men Been Interacting With #MeToo
How Have Men Been Interacting With #MeToo Image from pixabay.com In case you need some background information The original use of Me Too is credited to Tarana Burke, who first used the phrase in 2007. In an interview with Ebony Magazine, she said: âIt wasnât built to be a viral campaign or a hashtag that is here today and forgotten tomorrow. It was a catchphrase to be used from survivor to survivor to let folks know that they were not alone and that a movement for radical healing was happening and possible.â A decade later actress Alyssa Milano shared #MeToo on Oct. 15, encouraging women to share their experiences with sexual harassment or assault in order to show the world how widespread of an issue this really is. In just nine days the hashtag had been used over 1.7 million times and had reached 85 countries! And thatâs just the numbers from Twitter alone. If we had numbers from Facebook, Instagram, and other forms of social media, I expect the numbers would show that #MeToo has made contact with at least several million more. Presumably, these posts have led to millions of real, face-to-face conversations about sexual violence. Some people are even taking the phrase to the streets. The woman in this video took the bed she was raped on and made a powerful public statement out of it. Most importantly, as Tarana Burke originally intended, Me Too is a way of uniting victims and letting them know that they are not alone. But at the same time, it has also been a call for women to stand up against misogynist behavior. It is as much a tool for healing as it is a battle cry for change. How men have interacted with #MeToo Infographic composed by Jared Hammer Expectedly, men had difficulty fitting into the conversation. While the majority of men chose not to speak up at all, there was considerable backlash for those who did. Some men opened up about their own experiences as sexual victims, while others admitted their role in the sexual oppression of women with #IHave. From the conversations I saw, male victims of sexual violence who used the hashtag were primarily met with support from women. These women recognized that while this issue affects women on a much greater scale, sexual violence is in no way exclusive to women. According to rainn.org, the largest anti-sexual violence organization in the U.S., approximately 10 percent of rape victims are male. Still, with women being affected on such a wider scale than men, some felt that the focus should stay on violence against women, at least for now. The other side of men speaking up in the #MeToo campaign was the men who spoke up using #IHave, the idea being that for every #MeToo, there is someone on the other end of the equation. The intention of the effort has been for men to openly acknowledge ways they have been a part of the problem. By confessing their own role and promising to stand up against sexually oppressive behavior, these men were trying to be a part of the solution. A lot of people found #IHave highly distasteful. The majority of #IHave posts are primarily from men admitting to behavior that would be classified as sexual harassment or admitting a failure to stand up against it. Generally, these posts are accompanied with a vow to change this behavior. Despite their intentions, these men are often finding themselves lumped into the same category as the men who have committed serious sexual crimes. I found it disheartening to see these men treated like rapists. Although they are admitting their contribution to rape culture, finding men who never have contributed to the problem are few and far between. The men who use #IHave are trying to start a conversation about changing that narrative. I think we should be encouraging this behavior. I expect many women who spoke out against #IHave were reminded of past traumas and/or slimy experiences theyve had with sexual harassment. Thinking through this lens, it makes sense that a simple #IHave and Im sorry doesnt feel like enough. The simplicity of posting a status, without seeing it backed up by action, implied to critics that these men expected their past crimes to be absolved if they just made a post about it. While I dont think men should be discouraged from participating in the conversation, and I think #IHave is a conversation that needs to be had, I can agree that a social media status is not enough. For those who want to do more than a status update and need a stronger starting point, this article from CNN has a lot of great advice for men who want to be a part of the solution. With time, sexual education, and a willingness to change, we can help end sexual violence.

A Childs Tutor For Chemistry
A Child's Tutor For ChemistryThere are many students and teachers out there who say that they need a tutor for Chemistry. Do you know why they say that? Well, here is a hint, in the school where I teach, nearly 80% of my students do not have any idea how to do the lab work, even though they had been taking Chemistry from high school up to university. Sometimes, it's only that they did not get enough time to read the textbook before the test.Math is one of the most challenging subjects in the whole world. Math is the language of science and engineers. If you're studying for the MCAT, it is a compulsory subject. In order to pass the exam, you will need to be very good in math and it is a big problem among students who need a tutor for Chemistry. They find it difficult because in their freshman and sophomore year of high school, the teacher had taught them everything about math. Most parents, especially those in a child's class, tend to worry a lot about the test and are always worried a bout their child's scores. In the United States, it is common for parents to have their child take a standardized test in their junior or senior year of high school, so that the teacher can analyze the child's performance. The teacher might tell the parents that the child has a deficiency in reading and/or writing.Once the teacher presents the information to the parents, the parents usually end up blaming the child, making it easy for the teacher to disqualify the child from the course. In this case, it is the child who needs a tutor for Chemistry. In some countries, teachers require the child to have an instructor or a teacher to attend the tutor's class. But usually, the parents have a large role in the deciding the grades for the students.Parents will always find excuses for their child. Sometimes, the parents will be so concerned about the child's grade, that they will not let the child to go on a trip with his friends. It may be because the parents found out that the child's gr ades are not as good as they had hoped. In some other cases, the parents want the child to be more focused on school work. In all cases, it is the parents who are making the decisions for the children. The child cannot always hear what his parents want, so sometimes, the child has to take the lead. There are some kids who do not have the courage to take the lead in anything. They are afraid of speaking up for themselves. Because of that, they give in the parent's wishes. But at the end of the day, the kid has to do what he/she wants. He/she can either do what he/she wants or not. When kids are given the freedom to choose their own schedule, they tend to be more confident and independent. They will also be less stressed out and tired. If you want your child to be confident and independent, the best thing you can do is to enroll him/her in a course that teaches chemistry.
